1883-CC S$1 MS67 PCGS. Silver Dollar production at the Carson City Mint amounted to 1.2 million coins in 1883. Virtually the entire mintage was retained in federal vaults through the late 20th century, with quantities entering the numismatic market from time to time. The most significant release came in 1972-1980, when 755,518 Mint State pieces, or 62% of the original mintage, was dispersed by the General Services Administration. Since most '83-CC Dollars are, however, extensively abraded, this issue remains a rarity at the Superb Gem level of preservation. This is an exquisite example with rich, coruscant mint frost and a smooth cheek on Liberty's portrait. The balance of the features are equally smooth, all of which are sharply struck. The otherwise untoned surfaces reveal a blush of golden color at the upper obverse border and a streak of similar color on the reverse through the eagle's left (facing) wing. Population: 66 in 67, with a mere four finer (7/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
