First are the remarkably clean surfaces. Magnification fails to show any significant abrasions on either side. Second, the obverse has a mixture of olive-green, cobalt-blue, forest-green, and lavender coloration that was likely acquired from contact with the canvas bag in which it resided for a period of time. (In this regard, David Bowers, in his 1993 silver dollar Encyclopedia, writes: "For much of the present century, a vast reserve of 1883-CC dollars was stored in the Treasury Building in Washington, D.C.") By contrast, the reverse is brilliant. The design elements are well impressed, except for a touch of softness in the hair over Liberty's ear. Census: 79 in 67, 0 finer (6/06).
