1883-CC $10 AU55 NGC. Winter 1-B, the variety with the first C in the mintmark sharply higher than the second. The 1883-CC (12,000 pieces produced) is the most readily obtainable CC-mint Eagle from the 1880s after the 1881-CC and 1880-CC. The former date, however, is considerable rarer than the latter two in AU and Mint State with just 31-37 pieces believed extant in those grades (per Winter and Halperin, 2001). Ample remnants of the original finish outline virtually every element of the design. Rich orange-gold overtones dance across more deeply set green-gold coloration. Sharply struck throughout with no areas of mentionable loss of detail. Moderately abraded with an X shaped distraction in the obverse field between stars 10 and 11 and an obverse grease stain (as struck) over the 3 in the date. Just shy of Condition Census standing. From the Ashland City Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
