1883<50C> PR65 PCGS. The Philadelphia Mint was the only coinage facility that produced half dollars in 1883, and a minuscule total of 9,039 pieces were struck. A high grade survivor of the proof delivery (1,039 pieces), this coin displays a mix of golden-brown, mauve, lime-green, lavender, and aqua patina over somewhat reflective fields and mildly frosted motifs. Every detail shows a bold effect. A small indention on Liberty's cheek is mentioned for accuracy. Our auction records show that this issue has made only 26 appearances in this grade level through the major houses in the last fifteen years, with 17 pieces grading higher. Population: 33 in 65, 9 finer (5/05).
