1883 50C Hawaii Half Dollar PR61 PCGS. Very rare, just 26 proofs were struck in silver. Designed by Charles E. Barber. Proofs were struck at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. David Kalakaua was elected by the Hawaiian legislature to replace the first elected king, Charles Lunalilo, who passed away in 1874 without successor. Barber produced master dies and hubs, and coins were minted to the same standards as regular U.S. silver, and paralleling the U.S. denominations although bearing Hawaiian names.
This example is fully struck and shows just a touch of attractive peripheral toning on each side. The fields display a few grade-limiting hairlines, but are highly reflective and free of contact marks. Specimens are only offered at public auction every few years, making this a rare opportunity for the discerning specialist.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
