1883 25C Hawaii Quarter PR61 PCGS. The Hawaiian silver
1883 25C Hawaii Quarter PR61 PCGS. The Hawaiian silver coinage of 1883 were struck in business strike form at the San Francisco Mint, but proofs were struck in limited quantities at the Philadelphia Mint. Just 26 proof examples of each issue are documented, with six sets struck in September 1883 and another 20 sets about a year later, but still dated 1883. We are not aware of any diagnostics to distinguish between the two striking periods. The obverse has a short spike extending from King Kalakaua's neck, and a diagonal die line from a dentil down to the left, through the left serif of W to the right side of the first A in HAWAII. There are no obvious die markers on the reverse. This piece has clearly been cleaned with myriad hairlines on each side, yet the peripheral gold toning that frames the obverse provides enough eye appeal to allow a PCGS grade opinion. Population: 1 in 61, 5 finer (3/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
