1882 T$1 PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC. It was the advent of the Morgan dollar in 1878, and the recent achievement of "at par" circulation between gold coins, silver coins, and paper money, that hastened the nonetheless-lingering death of the Trade dollar. Secretary of the Treasury John Sherman (of Sherman Silver Purchase Act of 1890 fame) ordered the cessation of Trade dollar coinage by February 22, 1878--virtually at the same time as the first large release of the new Morgan dollars. The present example shows delightfully deep, mirrored fields with profoundly frosted devices. The surfaces are largely silver-white, save for a touch of original russet and ice-blue patina near the rims on each side. Census: 9 in 66 Ultra Cameo, 4 finer (4/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
