1882-O Morgan Dollar. O over S PCGS MS64
This overmintmark variety was discovered in the 1960s by A. George Mallis and Leroy Van Allen when they were given the opportunity to examine many of the Morgan Dollars that emerged from Treasury Department holdings. Apparently, this variety was created at the Philadelphia Mint when a few dies that were originally slated for shipment to San Francisco were overpunched with an O mintmark and then forwarded to New Orleans. Today, three die varieties are known, all of which are scarce in Mint State, particularly at the MS64 grade level. Gems are rare, with just eight known at NGC and PCGS (4/02).

This is a suitably choice, frosty coin for the grade as well as the issue. The texture is softly frosted as per the usual 1882-O striking, with a few wispy hairlines, and definitely the appreciative collector will enjoy the appreciation of the cartwheel effects
