1882-CC<$20> MS62 PCGS. It appears that the 1882-CC was locally circulated, rather than used for bullion reserves. As many of a thousand examples have survived from the mintage of 39,140 pieces. But the large majority of survivors are in XF and AU. PCGS and NGC combined have certified just 82 pieces in all Mint State grades. Presumably, this number includes many resubmissions. The single finest certified is a PCGS MS63, which sold for $69,000 in our November 2005 Dallas Signature. With that piece of the market, the present lustrous lemon-tinted piece represents the highest available quality. A few moderate marks are noted on the cheek, but the fields are surprisingly clean. Population: 11 in 62, 1 finer (9/06).
