1882-CC<$10> AU53 NGC. The Carson City Mint's focus in 1882 shifted to double eagles and half eagles, coining more than 120,000 pieces of the two denominations. By contrast, the mint produced only a tad more than 6,700 eagles. AU pieces are quite scarce, and Uncirculated pieces are nearly unknown. This pretty orange-gold example has considerable luster that still clings to the surfaces, along with the normal light wear and moderate abrasions that characterize a fairly brief stint in circulation. A single scrape before Liberty's mouth requires mention but is neither deep nor distracting. Census: 18 in 53, 72 finer (9/06).
