1882<3CN> PR68 Cameo PCGS. Filled 2. After an enormous (for the series) mintage of more than 1 million business strikes in 1881, the mintage of both proofs and business strike three cent nickels in 1882 dwindled. This is perhaps because so many examples of the 1882 Shield nickel were issued, a gigantic coinage in excess of 11 million pieces, as Philadelphia Mint personnel geared up to introduce the new Liberty five cent nickel in 1883. Pristine mirrored fields and chalky, equally well preserved frosty features. A touch of transparent streaky golden color coats both sides. Inspection with a glass leaves the viewer just as impressed as a casual glance, the sure sign of an outstanding proof type coin. Despite an intense examination of both sides under 16x magnification, the only quibble of any kind is a single tick in back of Liberty's ear, and a small one at that. Another unimprovable coin.
