<B>1882 $3 PR53 PCGS.</B></I> As was the case with proof issues of this era, some examples entered circulation or were mishandled, inadvertently or otherwise. Fortunately, the current example saw limited time in the hands of non-collectors and was rescued for the sake of posterity. From the minuscule mintage of 76 pieces, perhaps fewer than half survive in any grade.
