1882 25C Shield Earring Quarter Dollar, Judd-1698, Pollock-1900, Low R.7, PR67 NGC. Liberty faces to the right and wears an earring that is shaped and designed like a shield, thus the name for George Morgan's pattern design. The E PLURIBUS UNUM motto is found along the upper obverse border with the date below. The fields have seven stars to the left and six to the right. The reverse has an eagle with raised wings in a defiant pose, holding an olive branch and three arrows. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is close to the upper reverse border and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR is below. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. This Superb Gem is an outstanding proof with excellent cameo contrast. Pale gold toning graces the deeply mirrored obverse fields with richer gold, lilac, and iridescent toning on the reverse. This piece easily qualifies for the Cameo designation. At USPatterns.com, Saul Teichman has listed exactly nine examples of this variety that are known to him. The specimen that we are offering here is number six on his list.
Ex: Champa Collection (Bowers and Ruddy, 5/1972); Robert Hughes (1/1980); Heritage (10/1999); Superior FPL (4-7/2000)
From The Jones Beach Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
