1882 25C PR67 NGC. Briggs 2-B. With such a limited original mintage (15,200 business strikes and 1,100 proofs), it is little wonder that the Philadelphia Mint used only two sets of dies for the 1882 Seated Liberty Quarter. The specimen strikings are distinguishable from prooflike Uncs. by the position of the left base of the 2 in the date over the right edge of a denticle. The reverse that the Mint employed for the proof 1882 is not new--it had been used to deliver the 975 proof Quarters of the previous year. A glorious Superb Gem, the dominant color of the toning on both sides is a rich copper-charcoal shade. There are, however, cobalt-blue undertones in evidence at direct angles, and a swath of apricot-gray color bisects the central obverse. There is not a single ill-defined feature, nor can we find a hairline, contact mark, or any other blemish of note. A solidly graded and conditionally rare Superb Gem. Population: 11 in 67, with none finer (2/03).From the Philip Kaufman Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
