1882 25C PR66 Cameo PCGS. Briggs 2-B. Writing in 1991, Larry Briggs states that the reverse die that the Mint used to strike proof 1882 Quarters is the same that it used to strike proof 1881 Quarters. Under the 1881 header, he lists these notes about the diagnostics of this reverse die: "Many short die scratches under lowest horizontal line of shield. No other identifying features noted." The present 1882-dated specimen displays a lump on the uppermost arrow feather below the point of the shield that should further help to identify this die. One of just 16,300 Seated Quarters delivered in 1882 (1,100 coins of which were proofs), this high end Gem is golden tinged over glassy fields and richly frosted devices. Virtually blemish-free with razor sharp definition throughout. Population: 5 in 66 Cameo, just two are finer (7/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
