1882 $1 PR64 PCGS. The mint reportedly struck 1,100 proof Morgan dollars in 1882, but Walter Breen (1977) contends a total of 1,151 were produced, and "... supposedly 50 melted, leaving 1,101. Of these 1,100 would have gone with the 1,100 sets, the singleton for some unknown purpose." Medium intensity gunmetal blue and purple toning bathes both sides of this near-Gem, and bold definition is visible on the design elements, befitting of a proof strike. Close examination reveals the absence of any significant marks. Population: 83 in 64, 67 finer (6/07).

Coin Engraver: George T.
