1881<5C> MS67 PCGS. The government's stockpile of nickels became exhausted in 1881, but this did not happen until very late in the year. Since the Secretary of the Treasury ordered the Philadelphia Mint to resume production of this denomination on November 12, and the first coins were not delivered until December 12, it is little wonder that the original mintage for the 1881 amounted to just 68,800 business strikes. This Superb example is unsurpassable in grade at either NGC or PCGS. Pinpoint striking definition is noted throughout, but distracting abrasions and carbon are conspicuous by their absence. The untoned features allow full appreciation of the shimmering mint luster. Combined NGC and PCGS Population: 10 in 67, 0 finer (4/05).
From The Western Hills Collection.
