1881 5C MS67 NGC. The government's stockpile of Nickels became exhausted in 1881, but this did not happen until very late in the year. Since the Secretary of the Treasury ordered the Philadelphia Mint to resume production of this denomination on November 12, and the first coins were not delivered until December 12, it is little wonder that the original mintage for the 1881 amounted to just 68,800 business strikes. This is the finest example that we have offered since 1999, and it is unsurpassable in grade at either NGC or PCGS. Pinpoint striking definition is noted throughout, but distracting abrasions and carbon are conspicuous by their absence. The untoned features allow full appreciation of the shimmering mint luster. Combined NGC and PCGS Population: 7 in 67, 0 finer (10/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
