1881<5C> Liberty Head Five Cents, Judd-1672, Pollock-1873, R.6-7, PR65 Red and Brown Cameo NGC. The overall design is similar to that used on the adopted No Cents Liberty Head nickel. The obverse, however, displays UNITED STATES OF AMERICA about the periphery in place of the encircling stars. The reverse is devoid of lettering save for the Roman numeral V within the wreath. Struck in copper with a plain edge. Designed by Charles Barber, this pattern (not this particular coin) was one of many that were in the engraver's estate when he died in 1916. The surfaces display a warm rosy-red coloration with significant (and attractive) portions of blue scattered about each side. A nicely reflective pattern with noticeable contrast between the fields and devices on each side.
