1881 Eight-Piece Proof Set PR63 to PR66 NGC. The NGC holders that house the set have consecutive serial numbers.
1881 Cent PR66 Red and Brown NGC. This beautiful Premium Gem has rose-red, straw-gold, and pale olive hues. The strike is essentially unimprovable, and only infrequent, minuscule carbon is present. An aesthetic treat for the connoisseur.
1881 Three Cent Nickel PR66 Cameo NGC. A well struck, flashy, and nearly untoned high-grade specimen. The strike is on the ribs of the denomination, and only the lower reverse denticles lack absolute detail.
1881 Shield Nickel PR65 NGC. A silky-smooth Gem with glimpses of golden patina about the devices. The reflective qualities, while not spectacular, are certainly more than adequate for the type.
1881 Dime PR64 Cameo NGC. Glassy, well contrasted surfaces feature an almost totally brilliant obverse and a thin arc of russet toning on the reverse. Few 1881 proof dimes could surpass the appeal of this flashy specimen. Census: 11 in 64, 14 finer (6/07).
1881 Quarter PR64 NGC. Typically bold with illimitable depth of glassy reflectivity in the fields. Only a trace of russet toning can be seen at the borders. Just 975 proofs were struck for this low mintage date.
1881 Half Dollar PR65 Cameo NGC. An instantly appealing specimen that not only benefits from dramatic contrast between the fields and the devices, but also combines brilliant centers with a colorful ring of russet and blue iridescent toning about the peripheries. Census: 13 in 65, just 1 in 65 S, 11 finer (6/07).
1881 Trade Dollar PR63 NGC. A brightly mirrored specimen of this proof-only issue that, only under close inspection, yields wispy hairlines interspersed over the glassy fields.
1881 Morgan Dollar PR64 NGC. A dazzling borderline Gem that is untoned save for tinges of golden color at the margins. Contrast is evident on both sides, however falls just short in that regard on the obverse from a possible Cameo designation.

Coin Engraver: George T.
