<B>1881 $1 PR67 PCGS.</B></I> Ex: JFS Collection. The proof Morgan dollar issue of 1881, the first such issue since 1878 to have a mintage under 1,000 pieces, saw heavy production during the first and final quarters of the year, with only a handful of specimens struck during the second quarter and none in the third. Regardless of the quarter in which this delightful dollar was coined, it remains a thing of beauty, with powerful detail and rich toning that is lighter in the centers and darker at the rims. Delicate cream and pink patina graces the boldly impressed portrait and eagle, while the margins have beautiful bands of blue-green, lavender, and lemon-gold.
