1881 $1 MS66 PCGS. Shimmering luster is seen on both sides of this Premium Gem that features only a bit of tan toning. The strike, while adequate, is not entirely full and fails to fully define the central portions of the obverse and reverse. David Bowers (2005) writes of the 1881 dollar, with a generous mintage of 9,163,000 business strikes: "Sharply struck, lustrous coins with superb eye appeal are hard to find and mount a challenge for the serious collector." The current Premium Gem, therefore, provides Morgan dollar enthusiasts with an infrequent opportunity. Population: 57 in 66, 2 finer (12/07).
From The Motor City Collection.

Coin Engraver: George T.
