1881/0 $5 MS64 PCGS. FS-301, formerly FS-005. The remnants of a 0 are visible on both sides of the last 1 in the date. Bill Fivaz and J.T. Stanton, in their fourth edition of the Cherrypickers' Guide, say of the issue: "The 1881 date is clearly punched over an 1880 date. From the appearance of the repunching, each date was part of a four-digit logo punch." Bright luster issues from the peach-gold surfaces of this near-Gem example, and an impressive strike leaves sharp definition on the design elements. The grade is limited by some light contact marks and luster grazes. Population: 2 in 64, 0 finer (8/07).

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
