lot of 4. Earliest is 2pp, Wichita, KS, 27 July 1881. In this barely literate note John Keeran is writing to John Dorsey inquiring about who has the contract for the mail route from Wichita to Sunny Slope. My Bid is four hundred Dollars for the present year and from what i can find out the old contractor has not got the contract but he still holds posesion of it yet...now there seems to be some underground work going on about this contract some way and i believe that i hav the lowest bid on the Work i am the present carrier on this rout and hav been for mear four months now.... The other three are from June 16 & 17, 1884 and are recommendations for Harry Van Meter as mail carrier. Two are on Post-Office, Kingman, Kansas letterhead from C. W. Myers, Postmaster and Harry Baker. Third is from Pretty Prairie, KS (west of Wichita), signed by S. Pl Sanders, Post Master: this is Sertify that H. L. Van Meter has Deliverd mail Promptly at this office and departed as Soon as mail was changed. I believe him to be an honest man.
