1880's Tombstone's New Fire Pump attrib. C.S. Fly
For your consideration is this original cabinet card photo of Tombstone, Arizona Territory’s new town fire pump in the 1880s, photograph attributed to C.S. Fly. The used pump was bought from a Fire Station in San Francisco. The photo shows various town members, mostly men and young boys, gathered around their new steam pump fire engine. In the photo, the fire pump has a hose traveling to the water well in the ground and another connected to the side to spray the water. Seen in the left-hand side of the photo is a soldier, identified by his military hat and ranking on his arm. The back is marked in pencil reading, "Note Soldier at left / Looks like a new pump for the town Tombstone". The photo shows good condition overall with slight wear present from its age and use over the years, but no signs of major damage is noted. The photo measures 5 1/8" L x 8 1/2" W and weighs under 6 ounces. Back also has written (FLY). Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona F31
