This Springfield knife from the 1880's has a brass frame and guard stamped "US Springfield" on one side and "2608" on the other side. The handle is a hardwood possibly oak, in excellent shape with original varnish. The sheath is marked "Watervliet Arsenal" on the belt clip and "Watervliet Arsenal" lightly stamped on the leather where it joins the brass hardware. Watervliet would be the Army arsenal in New York state supplying the army and the cavalry of the period. This knife would require some training as the shape is a dagger design where you could put pressure on the spine and not the sharp edge or visa-versa. c. 1880's-1890's. Condition is very good including the sheath. 13 1/2 in. knife with a 8 in. blade.
