<B>1880 T$1 PR66 Cameo NGC.</B></I> The 1880 Trade dollar was struck in proof finish only, and has the highest mintage of all proofs in the series. In his <I>Silver Dollars and Trade Dollars of the United States</B></I>, David Bowers writes that: "Most ... still exist, perhaps 1,300 to 1,700 of the 1,987 coined." NGC and PCGS have certified several hundred examples, but have assigned the Cameo designation to far fewer specimens.<BR> The Premium Gem Cameo in this lot displays reddish-gold patina at the rims, leaving the central areas completely color free. The field-motif contrast is stunning, and assumes a white-on-black appearance when the coin is observed from an overhead angle. A powerful strike manifests itself in sharp delineation on the design elements, and close scrutiny reveals no significant contact marks.
