<B>1880 T$1 PR64 NGC.</B></I> Bowers' <I>Encyclopedia of Silver Dollars & Trade Dollars of The United States </B></I>(1993) notes that there are two die varieties known of this proof-only Trade dollar issue. This piece is an example of his second variety, which is attributed by the top of the 1 in the date being located below the space between G and O in GOD; and by the missing right serif of the 4 in 420 GRAINS, on the lower reverse, where only a tiny dot is seen. <BR> This near-Gem has an elegantly toned appearance, with deep cobalt-blue and rose-gray coloration that seems unmistakably original. The design elements are generally crisp, but slight weakness is acknowledged on the upper half of Liberty's head, and on her foot and the surrounding portion of the rock, as well as on the right side stars.
