<B>1880 S$1 MS66 PCGS.</B></I> Given its mintage of 12.6 million pieces and its early position within the Morgan dollar series, the 1880 is expectantly plentiful in MS62 to MS65 grades. At the MS66 level, however, it emerges as a surprising conditional rarity, and PCGS has yet to certify an example in MS67 or finer grades (NGC has certified one such piece, as of 10/06). This lustrous and untoned Premium Gem is sharply struck and beautifully preserved.
