1880-CC<S$1> MS66 PCGS. In February 1881, the Assay Commission determined that a number of 1880-CC dollars were of insufficient silver fineness. Because of this, 96,000 1880-CC dollars were subsequently melted at the Mint, leaving a net production figure of 495,000 coins. The present survivor displays intense luster and a few whispers of light tan color. The design elements are generally well struck, save for weakness in the hair over Liberty's ear. Well preserved surfaces show just a couple of minor luster grazes on Liberty's cheek.
