<B>1880/79-CC S$1 Reverse of 1878 MS66 NGC.</B></I> VAM-4. A Top 100 Variety. A leftover reverse die was used for some of the silver dollar coinage in Carson City during 1880. Perhaps the use of this reverse die from 1878 represented an emergency at that Mint. Most likely the new reverse dies for that coinage became unserviceable through extensive use, and the old reverse dies were placed back into service. This example has a sharp overdate obverse with much of the 79 visible beneath the 80. It is a lovely Premium Gem with frosty luster and brilliant silver surfaces. This example is one of the finest available.
