1880 $2 1/2 PR63 Cameo NGC. Only about a dozen proofs are known for this scarce date, representing about one-third of the original 36 coin mintage. Among known examples are the Smithsonian, Western Heritage Museum (Byron Reed), and American Numismatic Society coins held in institutional collections. Other specimens include the Eliasberg, Bass, and Trompeter Gems, and Choice proof pieces in the Garrett, Pittman, and Childs Collections. A thin hairline scratch is visible in the upper reverse field, an ideal marker for the pedigree of this lovely piece. This piece is a glittering yellow-gold representative with sharply detailed obverse and reverse devices. The Cameo contrast is created by frosty devices that are surrounded by deeply mirrored fields.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
