1880 10C PR68 NGC. A relatively large number of proof dimes were struck in 1880 (1,355 pieces), and NGC/PCGS census population data suggest a relatively large number have survived to the present. NGC has graded just six pieces in the lofty grade of PR68, and assigned the coveted Star to two coins, one of which we offer here; PCGS has seen no example at this grade level (4/07). Deep cobalt-blue, lavender, and golden-brown patination rests on the borders, and frame near-brilliant centers. Sharply struck design elements contain a good amount of frost, and stand out amid mirrored fields when the coin is tilted under a light source. Impeccably preserved surfaces reveal a faint linear mark on the cheek that may aid in pedigreeing this particular coin.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
