<B>1879 T$1 PR62 NGC.</B></I> The 1879 Trade dollar is a proof-only issue with a mintage of 1,541 pieces. In his Silver and Trade dollar reference (1993), David Bowers indicates that "Most specimens were saved, but with varying degrees of care." The NGC/PCGS population data bear this out, as relatively few certified coins fall into the Gem- quality classification. Whispers of golden-tan color gravitate to the peripheries of this PR62 specimen, being deeper in hue and more extensive on the reverse, and a powerful strike brings out crisp delineation on the design elements.
