<B>1879-S S$1 MS68 NGC.</B></I> The early S-mint Morgan dollars from 1879 through 1882 are paragons of production, the archetype of the Morgan dollar design in terms of strike, surfaces, luster, abrasions, and eye appeal. Today's collectors can thank their lucky stars for that, as well as for the generous mintages that make available the few "wonder coins" found that grade MS67, MS68, sometimes even MS69. This wonderful coin sports considerable cameo contrast on each side--although a tad shy of official recognition--along with untoned, silver-white surfaces and radiant cartwheel luster.
