1879 S$1 Metric Dollar, Judd-1624, Pollock-1820, R.7, PR63 NGC. The obverse shows Liberty facing left, her hair tied in a bun, E PLURIBUS UNUM above, the date below with stars to the left and right. The reverse has an elemental breakdown in the center, surrounded by a circle of tiny dots, a wreath of corn and cotton, and at the margin UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR. Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. These rarely seen pattern Dollars were issued in sets with the Coiled Hair Stellas and Morgan goloid metric Dollars. This is a lovely aluminum pattern whose surfaces are unoxidized. Only lightly hairlined and slightly hazy on the reverse, the main deterrent to a higher grade is a planchet flaw on the reverse below 100.Ex: Edward Maris; Garrett II (Bowers and Ruddy, 3/80), lot 1060, where it realized $3,750; University Park Sale (Steve Ivy, 3/81), lot 1518, where it brought $2,100. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
