1879 S$1 MS66 PCGS.<p>Ex: Jack Lee. Although not widely represented in the Treasury Department's Silver Dollar releases of the early 1960s, the 1879 is not a difficult issue to locate in Mint State. In fact, coins that grade MS60-65 are relatively common, and it seems likely that Mint-sealed bags emerged from the Philadelphia Mint and/or the Federal Reserve system in the 1940s and 1950s. We do not know the origin of this frosty-white Gem, but it is one of the finest examples known to PCGS. This issue is one of the more sloppily produced among P-mint Morgans, but this coin is sharply defined save for the lightest hint of softness on the hair over Liberty's ear. There are, of course, no individually mentionable bagmarks, and a pair of small, faint planchet streaks (as produced) in the right obverse field are the only worthwhile pedigree markers. Population: 28 in 66, only 1 finer (11/01).From the Mike Casper Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
