1879 Penny with Queen Victoria
The reverse shows Britannia seated facing right, wearing a helmet, holding a trident, and leaning on a shield. In the background is a lighthouse to the left, and ship to the right, the words 'ONE PENNY' in the fields, and date below.
Laureate head pennies were issued for Queen Victoria from 1860 to 1894 inclusive. The obverse design is similar for all dates, a laureate and draped bust, with her hair in a "bun", facing left.
