1879 CHURCH OF ENGLAND BROADSIDE FOR MOHAWK SCHOOL
Interesting printed broadside 8 1/2" x 13" on blue sheet, Mohawk Parsonage, Mill Point, May 15, 1879 printed by the Missionary and Rural Dean of the Mohawks, E. H. M. Baker, regarding the Mohawk tribe and the creation of a new school. In part: "....The Mohawks on the Bay of Quinte are among the most intelligent of the tribes of British North American Indians. They are indefatiguable in their efforts to promote the cause of education...They want a fourth school section in the remote part of the Reserve...Having, however, taxed themselves already to the utmost in the maintenance of the existing schools together with their churches...feel justified in asking for help...Chief Annosothkah (Sampson Green), after consultation with his brother Chiefs, consents, at much personal inconvenience and loss of time, to become the bearer of the appeal to England...". Rough right margin, sunned folds, very good.
