<B>1879-CC S$1 MS65 NGC.</B></I> The first real "stopper" in the Morgan dollar series, the 1879-CC is the second-rarest CC-mint Morgan behind the 1889-CC, and is highly elusive in Gem condition. Although more than three-quarters of a million pieces were coined in 1879, as of the current sale (11/06) both NGC and PCGS combined have certified only slightly more than 100 coins in MS65, with two examples finer at PCGS, of course including the inevitable resubmissions. The present brilliant Gem example offers boldly lustrous surfaces with generous eye appeal. Liberty's cheek is notably clean, and the surfaces elsewhere are equally attractive. A nice one!
