1879-CC$1> MS65 ANACS. The mintage of Morgan dollars in Carson City during the year was surprisingly small, with a total production of just 756,000 coins. Given the amount of silver mined from the Comstock Lode and elsewhere, this total is inexplicable. This date is the second rarest of all Carson City Mint issues, behind the 1889-CC dollar. Two varieties exist, and the so-called Capped Die variety is actually rarer in Gem condition, but the Perfect Mintmark variety (as offered here) is clearly more desirable. This is a lovely satiny Gem with brilliant silver surfaces highlighted by subtle champagne toning. The fields are slightly reflective and the devices are highly lustrous, providing a wonderful cameo appearance that creates excellent eye appeal.
