1879-CC S$1 MS64 Prooflike PCGS. Normal Mintmark. An extremely appealing example of this key date Morgan dollar, the first of the truly difficult CC-mint issues, along with the 1889 and 1893 emissions. Of course, as a Prooflike coin, this specimen is immeasurably more elusive than a "typical" Mint State 1879-CC. While PCGS has graded a total of 763 examples in MS64 or higher, it has designated only 58 pieces MS64 Prooflike or finer. The results are similar at NGC. In fact, only about 10% of MS64 and finer examples are certified as Prooflike, at the two major services combined.
The current coin offers glacial mint frost over the devices on both sides, with brilliantly mirrored fields that border on a Deep Mirror designation. Although the coin is untoned, there is a slight golden cast, a bit more so on the obverse than on the reverse. There are light abrasions, none of them distracting or deep, on Liberty's cheek that define the grade, but the reverse on its own would perhaps rate a Gem grade, and even the obverse appears high-end. Opportunity knocks. Population: 52 in 64, 6 finer (11/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
