1879-CC S$1 MS64 PCGS. Only 756,000 pieces were struck of the 1879-CC dollar. The reason for this remarkably low mintage (according to Bowers) is that confiscatory tariffs by the railroads made it cheaper to send Comstock silver hundreds of miles to the San Francisco Mint to be turned into coins rather than send it 15 miles to the Carson City Mint. The 1879-CC was very scarce for several decades after issuance--Augustus Heaton said of the 1879-CC: "It is not very common." It was only after the early 1940s that several bags of '79-CC dollars became available to collectors. This is a splendid, upper-end MS64 example that is brilliant throughout and displays semi-reflective surfaces with the strong luster characteristics this issue is known for. Strongly impressed with minimal abrasions for a '79-CC.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
