1879-CC<S$1> MS64 PCGS. Only 756,000 pieces were produced of the 1879-CC dollar, and apparently very few were dropped into the channels of commerce at that time. George W. Rice said in 1898 that he had never seen one--and he was a dollar specialist. Small quantities were paid out from the 1940s through the 1970s, but this is an issue that has always commanded a significant premium over other Carson City dates. It is also a noteworthy condition rarity in MS64 condition, and worth approximately 50% more than its MS63 counterpart. This piece displays richly textured surfaces that have a pronounced frosted appearance. Well, but not fully struck, there are no singularly mentionable abrasions on either side. Both obverse and reverse are brilliant except for a slight accent of color around the reverse periphery. An outstanding, high-end MS64 example of this scarce, semi-key Carson City issue.
