1879-CC Morgan $1
1879-CC Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-63. Housed in an Old Green Holder. Lightly toned and generally well struck. A plainly original white surface example, with great gleaming originality from the choice mint bloom. As seems often the case, an unconvincing impression was left by the recoil of the dies that struck much of this and the 1880-CC issue, but its evidence is rarely noticed by the average collector or even the average numismatists, since any weakness is often confined to the centers of the design. It is in this area where the silver planchet failed to completely fill the recesses of the two opposing dies. Liberty's hair has a few of the central hair strands fused, which hardly matters. The eagle's breast is rounded (although still exhibit plumage detail). Elsewhere, all is generally sharp to bold. Some light bagmarks in the field and on Liberty's profile. The head is rendered vibrant and white due to the extensive frost in this area of the coining die. A trait of the 1879-CCs and always welcome by admiring collectors (PCGS # 7086) .
Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000.
