<B>1879-CC<$20> XF45 NGC.</B></I> Variety 1-A, the only known dies. Despite the low mintage of 10,708 pieces, lightly worn examples are more available than one might think, due to a hoard of XF and AU pieces discovered in Europe in the 1990s. This example has light wear that is distributed over the yellow-orange surfaces, which retain significant luster, especially on the reverse. The scattered handling marks that appear on each side have little impact on the eye appeal of this important coin.<BR><I>From The Clifton Rodenburg Collection.</B></I>
