1879-CC $20 AU55 NGC. The mintage of double eagles in Carson City was doubly affected, first by the reduced gold deposits locally, second by the reduced demand for double eagles nationally, the latter occasioned by the Treasury's increased stress on the production of half eagles and eagles during the late 1870s. As a result, only 10,708 pieces of this issue were produced--a drop of nearly 20% from the 1878-CC. However, Rusty Goe's The Mint on Carson Street estimates that perhaps 3% to 4% of the 1879-CC coins survive today in all grades, an observation consistent with the published population data. This piece boasts still-lustrous copper-gold surfaces with a number of light abrasions indicative of a short spate in commerce.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
