1879-CC$1 MS65 PCGS. VAM-4. This is the Normal CC Mintmark variety, and it has the right-hand C of the mintmark slightly doubled inside. Just 756,000 examples of this issue were struck, and today, only about 100 of those have been certified as MS65 or finer. A large number of the original mintage entered circulation, and even today well worn examples are quite common. Many others were stored in Treasury vaults, and by the time Treasury disbursement was halted in the 1960s, only a little over 4,000 coins remained inside the Treasury walls. This is a frosty and lustrous Gem with exceptional eye appeal. The fields have very slight reflectivity, leading to light cameo contrast. The surfaces are mostly brilliant white with peripheral gold toning on both sides, accented by bright blue and pale lilac on the obverse.
From The Dr. Volker Dube Collection. Lot:7212
