<B>1879-CC $1 MS64 Prooflike NGC. CAC.</B></I> Though Prooflike examples of the 1879-CC issue are known, far more common are pieces which have only one side that would qualify. In his <I>A Guide Book of Morgan Silver Dollars</B></I>, Q. David Bowers writes of the 1879-CC: "Some are prooflike on one side or the other, this not being particularly unusual. The prooflike surface is often hazy or 'gray,' not deeply mirrorlike."<BR> By contrast, this boldly struck and attractive near-Gem has distinctly mirrored fields on each side. Whispers of gold and blue patina visit the margins, while the centers are essentially untoned. Moderate frost on the minimally marked portrait adds a note of contrast. Highly appealing and desirable.
