1879-CC $1 MS64 PCGS. A splendid, high-end near-Gem with semi-reflective fields and nicely frosted devices. The strike, while not entirely full at the centers, is certainly bold and the surfaces possess a very light silver-pink tone to them. A pleasing survivor from a low mintage of just 756,000 pieces. The reason for this low mintage (according to Bowers) is that confiscatory tariffs by the railroads made it cheaper to send Comstock silver hundreds of miles to the San Francisco Mint to be turned into coins rather than send it 15 miles to the Carson City Mint.
From The Motor City Collection.

Coin Engraver: George T.
